7 Questions to ask when comparing Medicare Plans:
What is your WEISS rating (this is recommended by the Center for Medicare Services)?
Ask the agent to send you the WEISS rating sheet to you via email.
If it’s lower than a B+ eliminate this plan from your list.
Do you sell both MediGap (Med Supplements) and Medicare Advantage?
Any agent should be able to sell you both and if they only offer Medicare Advantage this is not an agent you should buy from.
Do you have a waiting period for pre-existing conditions?
Some plans can delay coverage for 6 months on pre-existing conditions.
Do you price based on Community Rating, Issue Age or Attained Age?
If not Community then Issue Age will remain the lost cost in the future. If they don’t offer this then eliminate them from your list.
How do I contact YOU in the future - not a call center, not an 800 number. What is your direct phone number and email?
Just like your home or car insurance you should be able to contact the person who sells you your Medicare Insurance directly.
If you cannot contact the person selling you the policy then find an agent that lives in your local area. Click here to schedule an appointment with a licensed local agent.
Does the price you are quoting assume any discounts or benefits?
If so have they already been applied to the price?
Has the premium increased in the last 3 years?
If so by how much? Have them send this to you in writing.
